Dear Parents,

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”    This was a verse we focused on this week in our Bible journals.  We talked about how we can serve the Lord and have chosen 3 ways next week:  helping students pick up fallen items when our supply boxes fall to the ground (it just keeps happening! :), picking up paper towels in the bathrooms, and picking up trash around our campus.  The students are excited to find new ways to serve our Lord!

*We went to the library for the first time today so your child might have two library books in his/her bookbag.  We will have library every Friday.

*AR Goals and STAR test results went home today.  I have told the students they can bring home any book they borrow from my classroom library; they just need to bring it back and forth.  Please feel free to email/call me if you have questions or concerns about AR or the STAR test.

Here is what we will be working on next week:

Social Skills:  We will be talking about how to work through conflict.  I have introduced the “I statement” as a way to help start a conversation between students when conflict occurs.

Reading:  We will work on using a new comprehension strategy, Check for Understanding.  We are also continuing to look at how to use text (fiction and non-fiction) to answer questions.  We will also work on using predictions to figure out what a text is about.

English:  We will identify and create simple and compound sentences.

Religion:  We will continue to create new Bible Journal pages, using special verses from the Bible.

Memory Work:  If your child would like to say the rest of the Old Testament books next week, that is an option, not required.

Math:  We will be writing the Date Using Digits, dividing Squares into 2,4, and 8 parts, reading a thermometer to the nearest 10 degrees, and rounding numbers to the nearest 10.

Social Studies:  This week our class will be doing S.S. with Miss Bevirt!  They will start with Chapter 1, Where in the World is our Community?  This unit will take about 2-3 weeks and then it will be back to Science.

I was terrible about taking pictures this week so I will be more diligent next week!  Thanks for understanding!  Have a great 3 day weekend!
